Every AI Student Discount We Could Confirm

We went through the official offer and pricing pages for ten AI tools students ask us about most, on September 25, 2026. This is every AI student discount we could actually confirm on a vendor's own page: who qualifies, what you pay while it lasts, and what you pay after. Where a tool has no student offer, we say so plainly instead of dressing up a normal trial.

Short version: five of the ten have a real individual student offer right now (ChatGPT, Gemini, GitHub Copilot, Notion, and ElevenLabs through its ElevenReader app), one has a discount it won't put a number on publicly (Perplexity), and the other four either sell only to schools or have nothing for students at the moment.

ChatGPT: four months of Plus for US college students

OpenAI's 2026 Back to School offer gives eligible students four monthly billing periods of [ChatGPT Plus](/tools/chatgpt-plus) at $0. It's for current full-time and part-time college and graduate students at eligible US degree-granting schools, and SheerID does the checking. Depending on your school, SheerID may confirm you from records, ask you to sign in through your school's login, or ask for a document.

The details that matter:

• Claim it by **October 31, 2026**. You can redeem it once.
• You need a valid payment method to activate it. You aren't charged during the four months.
• After that it renews at **$20/month** unless you cancel.
• If you cancel early, Plus keeps working to the end of the current billing month, then the rest of the promo months are gone.
• Subscriptions billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play can't take the offer while they stay store-billed.
• Your SheerID email doesn't have to match your ChatGPT email. The offer lands on whichever account is signed in.

Outside the US there's no student price on the pricing page. From India the page showed us Go at ₹399/month and Plus at ₹1,999/month.

Gemini: a year of Google's AI plan, with a card on file

Google runs the widest student offer we found, but it isn't the same plan everywhere. On the US page it's the **Google AI Pro** student plan: $0 for 1 year for eligible US college students aged 18+, then **$19.99/month** automatically unless you cancel. You re-verify every year, and you have to redeem by **December 31, 2026**.

In a lot of other countries the offer is **Google AI Plus** instead, which is a smaller plan:

• **UK:** $0 for a year for university students 18+, then £4.49/month. New users and students whose 2025 AI Pro trial expired can both qualify.
• **India:** $0 for a year for university students 18+, then ₹399/month.
• **Germany:** the page headline says a year of AI Plus for students and apprentices, but the fine print talks about renewing into AI Pro at €21.99/month, with the reduced price capped at four years. We'd read your own country's terms before trusting either number.

Every version we read needs a valid payment method at sign-up. That's the part people forget. GitHub Copilot: the Copilot Student plan

Verified students get the **Copilot Student** plan at $0 through GitHub Education. GitHub's plans page describes it as including an allowance of GitHub AI Credits, auto model selection, and full agent support (third-party agents excluded). For comparison, Copilot Pro is $10/month and Pro+ is $39/month, and those are the tiers that pick from more models.

To qualify you need to be at least 13 and enrolled in a degree or diploma-granting program, which includes high school and homeschool. Proof can be a school ID with a current enrollment date, a class schedule, a transcript or an enrollment letter. Some schools also need an academic email.

Two small catches. GitHub re-checks your eligibility **every month**, and approval and Copilot activation are separate steps, so the benefit can take several days to show up after you're verified. Notion: Education Plus with a school email

[Notion](/tools/notion) gives the Plus plan to students and educators at accredited colleges and universities at $0. Plus is normally $10 per member per month. You need a school email (Gmail won't do), and K-12 students aren't eligible.

What we'd point out:

• It's one member per workspace, with up to 100 guests. Verified student organizations get a version for all members.
• Notion's pricing page lists Plus with a **trial** of Notion AI, not the full thing, and the education page doesn't say AI is included. We'd assume it isn't.
• You re-verify every year. If you can't verify with a school email anymore, your workspace moves to the Free plan. Nothing gets charged. The [Notion Education Plus deal](/deals/notion-plus-students) has the claim steps.

Perplexity: Education Pro, price not public

[Perplexity](/tools/perplexity-ai) offers **Education Pro** to verified students and educators "at a discount". It includes everything in Pro plus some study-focused tips. You verify through SheerID from the upgrade screen by switching to the Education plan and clicking "Verify as student". Any email works for the account.

What we couldn't confirm: the actual discounted price. It isn't on the public help pages or the students page, which only shows it after sign-in. For reference, regular Pro is $17/month billed annually. The discount also doesn't move with you: switch to a new email and you verify again. Claude: no individual student plan

We found no individual student discount for [Claude](/tools/claude). Anthropic sells Claude for Education as a university-wide plan covering students, faculty and staff. If your university has it, you get access through them. If not, there's a Free plan, and Pro is $20/month (or $17/month billed annually, $200 up front). Anthropic Academy has an AI Fluency course for students, which is learning material, not a discount.

Cursor: nothing for students right now

[Cursor](/tools/cursor) has no student plan at the moment. Its students page says anyone can start on the Hobby tier at $0 (no card needed), and to "look out for promotions" at campus and online events starting this fall, plus a campus newsletter. Individual is $20/month. If a promo shows up we'll add it here.

Canva: depends on your school

For university students, [Canva](/tools/canva) doesn't sell an individual student discount. If your university pays for Canva for Campus, you may get Pro features through it. Try signing in with your school email to check. If not, it's Canva Free or regular Pro.

K-12 students get [Canva Education](/deals/canva-education-k12) at $0, but only through a teacher's invite. Either way, when you graduate you may lose access, so copy your designs to a personal account first.

Grammarly: institutions only

[Grammarly](/tools/grammarly-premium) sells Grammarly for Education to schools, not to individual students, and the plans page FAQ only mentions discounts for educational institutions. The page served us Indian pricing: Plus at ₹392 per member per month billed annually, or ₹1,000 monthly. We couldn't get it to load a USD price, so check the plans page from your own country.

ElevenLabs: a year of ElevenReader, not the voice platform

[ElevenLabs](/tools/elevenlabs) gives students and professors at verified institutions **one year of ElevenReader Ultra** at $0 (ElevenReader values it at $99). ElevenReader is the reading and listening app, not the voice-generation platform most people mean by ElevenLabs. You need to be 18+, sign up with a .edu or equivalent school email, and your institution has to be on their list; if it isn't, there's a form to request it. After the year, it **renews automatically at the regular annual price** unless you cancel. Details on the [ElevenReader Ultra deal](/deals/elevenreader-ultra-students).

For the voice platform itself there's no student price on the pricing page. The Free plan is $0 with 10k credits a month, Starter is $6/month, and Creator is $22/month with 50% off the first month ($11). There's also a Startup Grants program, which ElevenLabs points student founders to.

Your checklist before you claim anything

• [ ] Check your country is covered. ChatGPT's offer is US-only; Gemini varies by country.
• [ ] Have your proof ready: school email, or an ID or document with your name, school and a current date.
• [ ] Note the claim deadline (ChatGPT: October 31, 2026; Gemini: December 31, 2026).
• [ ] If a card is required, write down the date the first charge lands and set a reminder a week before.
• [ ] Note how often you re-verify (GitHub: monthly; Gemini and Notion: yearly).
• [ ] Before graduating, export anything that lives on a student plan.

FAQ

Which AI tools have a student discount right now?

ChatGPT (US only, 4 months of Plus at $0), Gemini (a year of Google AI Pro or AI Plus depending on country), GitHub Copilot (Copilot Student at $0), Notion (Education Plus at $0) and ElevenLabs (a year of ElevenReader Ultra at $0). Perplexity has a student discount but doesn't publish the price.

Do I need a credit card?

For ChatGPT and Gemini, yes. Both charge automatically after the offer unless you cancel. Notion and GitHub don't charge; they just drop you to a lower plan when you stop qualifying.

I'm not a US student. What can I get?

Is Claude or Cursor discounted for students?

Not individually. Claude comes through university-wide deals only, and Cursor says to watch for campus event promos this fall.
