How to claim
Who qualifies: full-time or part-time college and graduate students at an eligible US degree-granting institution. OpenAI checks your enrolment through SheerID. You need a card to finish activation.
- Open chatgpt.com/students/2026 in a browser and sign in to the ChatGPT account you want the offer on.
- Follow the SheerID prompts. Depending on your school, it checks records, asks you to log in to your school account, or asks for documents.
- Go back to the offer flow, add a payment method when asked and finish activation.
- Check that your account now shows Plus.

Cancel before the fifth month starts and the total is $0. Keep Plus through month 12 and you pay 8 months at $20, which is $160.
The catch
- It renews at $20/month after the four months unless you cancel. Set a reminder before the fourth billing period ends.
- US students only, and one redemption per person.
- Plus subscriptions billed through the App Store or Google Play can't take the offer.
- If you cancel early, the remaining promo months are gone, and OpenAI can't move the promo to another account.
Questions people ask
Does my ChatGPT account need my school email? No. The email you use for SheerID can differ from your ChatGPT login. The offer lands on whichever account is signed in when you claim.
I already pay for Plus. Can I claim it? Yes, if your monthly Plus is billed directly by ChatGPT and you're eligible.
I used an earlier student promo. Can I claim again? Yes. OpenAI says an earlier student promotion doesn't stop you by itself.
