Other ways to pay less
- Standard costs $0 with a Google account. Most tools are there (Audio and Video Overviews, reports, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps), just with lower daily caps.
- Google AI Plus at $4.99/month is the cheapest paid tier. It doubles the notebook and source caps and gives four times the daily chats.
- Ask your school's IT team: Google says a qualifying Workspace for Education licence can include higher Gemini Notebook limits.
- Daily caps reset after 24 hours, so spreading a big batch of overviews over a few days can keep you on Standard.

Questions about NotebookLM
Is there a NotebookLM student discount?
Yes, through Google AI plans. US college students aged 18+ can get Google AI Pro at $0 for a year (redeem by 31 Dec 2026), and AI Pro comes with Gemini Notebook's Pro limits. Students in India, the UK and Germany get Google AI Plus for a year instead, which comes with the Plus limits. Both need a card at sign-up and renew at the normal price unless you cancel.
Is NotebookLM the same as Gemini Notebook?
Yes. Google renamed it: notebooklm.google now redirects to notebook.google, and Google's help centre calls it Gemini Notebook.
What do I get on the $0 Standard tier?
Per Google's help page on 26 Sep 2026: 100 notebooks, 50 sources per notebook, 50 chats, 3 Audio Overviews and 3 Video Overviews a day, 10 reports, flashcard sets, quizzes and mind maps a day, and 10 Deep Research runs a month.
Can I get higher limits through my school?
Possibly. Google's help page says a qualifying Google Workspace or Workspace for Education licence can come with Pro or Ultra-level access. Ask your school's IT team what your school account includes.
