How the syllable counter works

Each word is reduced to letters, silent endings like the final e in love are dropped, and groups of vowels are counted. So tonight counts 2 and remember counts 3. Section tags are not sung, so they are skipped.

A line is flagged as uneven when it sits more than about a third (and at least two syllables) away from the typical line in the same section.

Questions

What is the character limit for Suno's Style of Music box?

Suno has not published official limits. Users report about 1,000 characters on v4.5 and newer models and about 200 on older ones. The builder shows a live count against whichever you pick, and short styles of 2 to 6 tags usually work better than long ones anyway.

What are Suno metatags?

Bracketed section labels in the lyrics box, such as [Verse], [Chorus], [Bridge] and [Outro]. Suno uses them to shape the song's structure. Production directions belong in the Style box instead; inside the lyrics they are often ignored or sung.

Why count syllables in AI song lyrics?

Lines with very different syllable counts force the AI singer to rush or stretch words. Keeping lines in the same section within a couple of syllables of each other gives cleaner phrasing. The builder flags lines that sit far from their section's typical length.

How accurate is the syllable counter?

It uses a standard English rule set (vowel groups with silent-e and -ed fixes) and is usually within one syllable per word. It is built for English lyrics; other languages will be rough.

Does this use my Suno account or credits?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to Suno or to us. You copy the result and paste it into Suno's Custom mode yourself.

Why does Suno say my styles or tags are too long?

The Style of Music box has a character limit, and older models allow far less than v4.5 and newer. The builder counts characters as you click, against the limit you pick. Trim to one genre and 2 to 5 details, and drop tags that repeat the same idea.

Why does Suno reject a style that names an artist?

Suno does not accept artist names in the style box. Describe the sound instead: the genre, era, instruments, vocal type and mood that artist is known for. For example, moody alt-rock with a raw male vocal and heavy guitars says more than a name would.

Which tags work best?

Start with one main genre, then add mood, one or two instruments and a vocal type. Many tags pulling in different directions tend to flatten the result. Use Exclude styles for anything you keep getting and don't want.
