The catches
A1 is web apps only. Desktop Word and Excel need your school's A3 or A5 licence or a paid plan.
Access depends on staying enrolled or employed. When you leave, the account goes to view-only and you can't create or edit files.
Approval is often instant, but Microsoft says manual verification can take up to a month.
Questions
What if my school isn't approved?
Your institution has to sign up for Office 365 Education first. You can still use the web versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint with a personal Microsoft account.
What happens when I graduate?
Your school account stops working for editing. Move your files to a personal OneDrive or a paid Microsoft 365 plan before you leave.
